The PCM may disable a misfiring cylinder to prevent further engine damage. The P0316 fault code is often recorded along with one or more P0300-series codes that are associated with the misfiring(s).
Other fault codes that are related to P0316 include: P0300, P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304, P0305, P0306, P0307, P0308, P0309, P0310, P0311 and P0312
If misfiring occurs repeatedly in cylinder 1, for example, the fault code P0301 will be triggered. The two last digits in the fault code identify the cylinder. If you have a misfiring code or codes, you will need to diagnose and fix them first.
