P0107 Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) Sensor Circuit Low Voltage Fault: What is it?

P0107 Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) Sensor Circuit Low Voltage Fault: What is it?

This pressure can be affected by engine speed, throttle opening, air temperature and barometric pressure (BARO). This pressure is affected by the engine speed, throttle position, air temperature and barometric pressure. The Powertrain Control Module uses the MAP signals for different adjustments, depending on the design of the vehicle. Some examples include fuel distribution calculations and EGR control.
In the MAP sensor is a resistor which moves in accordance with the manifold pressur. The voltage of the resistance varies depending on engine load between 1 volt to 4.5 volts. The PCM needs this signal to determine the fuel distribution and manifold pressure. The P0107 fault is set if the PCM receives an input voltage of 0.25 or less from the MAP Sensor Circuit.

What are the causes of fault code P0107?

The following are common reasons why the MAP sensor sends a signal with a low voltage to the PCM:

  • Faulty MAP Sensor
  • Circuit problems, such as damaged cables or loose connections
  • Weak electrical signals
  • Low engine vacuum
  • PCM, ECM or ECU Fault

The MAP sensor may not produce the correct voltage signal if the engine is in poor condition, low fuel pressure or internal problems such as valve melting are present. It is possible that the PCM, ECM, or ECU are also faulty. However, this is very rare.

What are the symptoms of fault code P0107?

  • Engine fault light illuminates continuously or intermittently
  • Difficulty starting the engine
  • Unregular engine operation
  • Fuel consumption increases
  • Engine stalling
  • Fluctuations of engine speed
  • Uncontrolled acceleration can backfire
  • Black smoke coming from exhaust

How to Fix Fault Code P0107?

  • The code must be reset, and the road test performed to determine if the code is returning.
  • If it returns, the connectors and cables for the MAP sensors must be checked.
  • Repair damaged, worn out cables and loose connectors. Electrical connections must be disconnected, then reconnected.
  • The MAP Sensor must be checked with a Multimeter. The input voltage of the MAP sensor should be at least 5 volts. The minimum voltage should be between 0.5 volts and 1 volts when the throttle is closed. Full throttle typically produces 4.5 volts. The voltage should vary with engine speed.
  • Replace the MAP sensor if the voltage is not what you expect.
  • If all checks are good, the PCM should be tested.

How serious is fault code P0107?

The engine runs irregularly when the fault code P0107 is present. This requires immediate attention. Diagnose the code as soon as you can. The MAP sensor can cause excessive fuel consumption, irregular engine running, and in some cases, difficulties starting the vehicle. The vehicle may continue to cause problems, such as engine damage, if it is driven in a state like this.
