P0325 Knock Sensor 1 Circuit Malfunction Fault: What is it?

P0325 Knock Sensor 1 Circuit Malfunction Fault: What is it?

The fault code P0325 may indicate a problem with the knock sensor. This code is generated when the vehicle’s main computer, also known as the powertrain controller module (ECM/PCM), detects an issue with the knocksensor or its circuit. To alert the driver, the engine fault light will illuminate along with the code. The knock sensor detects vibrations or knocks in the cylinders when the ignition is turned on. There may be two or one knock sensor depending on the model or make of your vehicle. The code P0325 is displayed when the knock sensor signals exceed predefined parameters for a period of time. The knock sensor is located on the side with the cylinder number 1 of the engine.

What are the causes of fault code P0325?

  • Knock sensor failure
  • Short circuit or open circuit in the wiring harness
  • Issues with electrical connections in the knock sensor circuit. (loose connectors, damaged cables).
  • ECM / PCM / ECU Fault

What are the symptoms of fault code P0325?

  • Engine fault light illuminated
  • There could be a small loss of power
  • Fuel consumption increases
  • Engine knocking sounds
  • There could be no symptoms of a fault

How to Fix Fault Code P0325?

The codes must first be cleared, and then a road test is performed to see if the code returns. If the code is returned, inspect the sensor circuit, wiring and number 1 knock sensor. Test the knock sensor resistance.

  • Repair or replacement of the cable harness
  • Replacement of the faulty knock sensor
  • Repair of any electrical connections
  • Replacement of the faulty ECU

How serious is fault code P0325?

The safety of driving is not compromised by the fault code P0325. The vehicle should be brought to the nearest service center. Some vehicles can experience a loss of power if the engine knocks.
