The mechanical timing of the motor is the subject of fault code P0009. Fault code P0009 will be triggered if, during a test by the Engine Control module (ECU/ECM/PCM), a misalignment between the crankshaft and camshaft is detected in the engine row that contains the second cylinder. Engine control module compares the position of the camshafts and crankshafts to a standard value using sensors. This fault code is generated by the engine control module if it detects that the camshafts and crankshafts are not in sync.
The most common vehicles affected by P0009 are various Chevrolet models, including the Chevy Traverse, GM, GMC and Cadillac.

What Are the Symptoms of Fault Code P0009?
The P0009 fault code is related to an incorrect engine timing. The engine will run in an irregular manner. Engine fault light illumination is one of the most obvious symptoms.
- The vehicle is running irregularly, particularly when it accelerates
- Idling irregularity
- Fuel consumption increases
- Reduced engine power and performance
- Rattling and ticking noises coming from the engine/timing belt
- Engine failure

What causes fault code P0009?
The fault code P0009 is usually displayed when the timing chain has a problem. Causes:
- Engine timing is out of sync
- A loose and stretched timing chain
- Faulty timing chains tensioner
- Worn out timing guides and gears
- Faulty crankshaft or camshaft sensor
- A crankshaft wheel that is faulty or has been dislodged
- Cable damage
- Low Engine Oil Level
- Fazer (variable valve timing actuator) faulty
- Faulty solenoid for variable valve timing (oil control Valve)
- A faulty engine control unit or PCM (ECU/ECM/PCM) is rare.
Note: The fault symptoms may differ if the fault is caused by the engine control unit.
How to Fix Error Code P0009?
- Check the crankshaft reluctor to make sure it is positioned correctly.
- Replace damaged and defective parts.
- Start the engine and reset the code to check if the Engine Control Light is illuminated.
- If the fault is caused by the engine control unit, it may not be due to any damage or a problem. The ECU may be defective if there are no other symptoms than the fault indicator.
The fault code may include P0008, P0010 P0011, P0012, and P0013, as well as P0014,P0015,P0016,P0017,P0018,P0019.
