The mechanical timing of the motor is the subject of fault code P0008. The Engine Control Module (ECU/ECM/PCM), during its test, detects misalignment of the camshafts and crankshafts in cylinder 1. Fault code P0008 will be triggered. Engine control module compares the crankshaft position and camshaft position to a preset reference value using sensors. This fault code is generated by the engine control module if it detects that the camshaft and crankshaft are out of sync.

What are the Symptoms of Fault Code P0008?
The P0008 fault code is related to an incorrect engine timing. The engine will run in an irregular manner. The most common symptoms include:
- The engine fault lamp illuminates
- The vehicle is running irregularly, particularly when it accelerates
- Idling irregularity
- Fuel consumption increases
- Reduced engine power and performance
- Rattling and ticking noises coming from the engine/timing belt
- Engine failure

What causes fault code P0008?
The fault code P0008 is usually displayed when the timing chain has a problem. Causes:
- Engine timing is out of sync
- A loose and stretched timing chain
- Faulty timing chains tensioner
- Worn out timing guides and gears
- Faulty crankshaft or camshaft sensor
- A crankshaft wheel that is faulty or has been dislodged
- Cable damage
- Low Engine Oil Level
- Fazer (variable valve timing actuator) faulty
- Faulty solenoid for variable valve timing (oil control Valve)
- Rarely, an engine control unit (ECU/ ECM/ PCM) that is faulty or out-of-date.
Note: The fault symptoms may differ if the fault is caused by the engine control unit.
How to Fix Error Code P0008?
- Check the crankshaft reluctor to make sure it is positioned correctly.
- Replace damaged and defective parts.
- Reset code and restart the engine.
- If the fault is caused by the engine control unit, and there are no other symptoms than the fault light as described above, then the ECU may be faulty. The ECU may be defective if there are no other symptoms than the fault indicator.
This fault may be accompanied by codes such as P0009, P0010, P0011, P0012, P0013, P0014, P0015, P0016, P0017, P0018, P0019 and many others.
How serious is fault code P0008?
You will have poor engine performance if you do not repair the P0008 fault. The vehicle will not idle smoothly. Fuel consumption and engine performance will both decrease. It will eventually damage internal engine parts, causing more severe engine damage.
