P0335 Malfunction in the Crankshaft Position Sensor “A” Circuit Fault: What is it ?

P0335 Malfunction in the Crankshaft Position Sensor “A” Circuit Fault: What is it ?

When you first get in your car to drive to work, what is the first thought that comes to mind? What is the position of your crankshaft when you get into your vehicle to go to work in the morning? Most likely not. The crankshaft is vital to the engine of your car, as it converts linear energy into rotational power. It is important to know the position of the crankshaft for proper engine operation and alignment. OBD-II equipped vehicles use a sensor to send information about the position of the crankshaft to the powertrain module (PCM/ECM/ECU). The crankshaft sensor (CKP), which measures the rotational speed of the engine crankshaft (RPM), is used to determine the exact position and position. You cannot start the engine of your vehicle without this sensor. The P0335 error code is generated when the vehicle’s main computer, also known as the powertrain controller module (ECM/PCM/ECU), cannot detect a crankshaft sensor signal. The engine fault light will also illuminate.
The CKP sensor tells the computer of the vehicle how fast it is running. This information is used by the ECM (engine-control module) to determine when to inject fuel into the engine and when to fire spark plugs in order to ignite the air/fuel mixture.
The CKP works with a reluctance ring that is attached to the crankshaft. The sensor is moved by the reluctance band. The sensor sends an electrical signal to the ECM in order to inform it of the position of crankshaft. The P0335 code is generated by the ECM if it does not know where the crankshaft is.

What are the causes of fault code P0335?

It can be difficult to determine the exact cause of P0335. There are many possible causes. Crankshaft position sensors could be to blame. The Powertrain Control Module is another possibility. This fault code could be caused by a crankshaft sensor that is faulty, but also by various sensor output signals. A damaged timing belt, or reluctor rings may be the cause of this fault code.

  • Short circuit or open in the wiring harness
  • Weak electrical connection
  • Faulty crankshaft position sensor
  • Damaged signal plate
  • Timing belt or chain that is faulty or damaged
  • Reluctor ring damaged or broken
  • ECM Fault

What are the symptoms of fault code P0335?

The symptoms associated with the fault code P0335 can vary depending on its cause. Code P0335 may cause some vehicles to not start. The vehicle can become undriveable if it does start due to issues such as engine misfiring or stalling. It may also have low engine performance, high fuel consumption, and reduced engine performance.

  • The engine fault lamp illuminates
  • The engine starts slowly or not at all
  • Misfiring engine and stalling
  • Low engine power
  • High fuel consumption

How to Fix Fault Code P0335?

The scan tool will be used by your mechanic to check the codes in the ECM. The mechanic should check all fault codes, including those that are pending, as well as any past ones. After clearing the codes, a road test is performed to determine symptoms. The mechanic will perform a visual check of the wiring and crankshaft sensor. The wiring should be checked if both sensors are working correctly. Finally, the ECM will be tested under manufacturer-specific test procedures.
P0335 is most commonly caused by the crankshaft sensor. However, all components including the sensor ring, timing belt and sensor ring must be checked.

  • Replacement the crankshaft sensors
  • Repair and replacement wiring harness
  • Replacement of the ECM
  • Replacement of the Signal Plate
  • Replace the timing belt, or chain

How Important is Fault Code P0335?

P0335 is a serious electrical or mechanical problem in the engine. You should not drive your vehicle until you have resolved the problem.
