P0715 Input/Turbine Speed Sensor ‘A’ Circuit Malfunction Fault: What is it?

P0715 Input/Turbine Speed Sensor ‘A’ Circuit Malfunction Fault: What is it?

The engine and transmission of your vehicle are monitored by a number of sensors. The sensors communicate constantly with the main computer of the vehicle (Powertrain Control module or PCM/ECM), to ensure that the vehicle is operating correctly. Fault code P0715 refers to the communication between the engine and transmission. The P0715 code is set if the PCM detects a problem with the signal from the input speed sensors in the transmission. This occurs when the PCM cannot read the engine speed to change gears. Circuit “A” indicates the input sensor.
The transmission’s or the sensor’s internal turbine speed sensor measures the rotational speed of the shaft. The engine fault light will illuminate when the PCM (transmission control modules) detects an abnormality in the input of the turbine speed.
This fault may cause the vehicle to enter limp mode. In limp mode, the vehicle’s speed and power are reduced to avoid further damage. The automatic transmission will only engage the 2nd or third gear in this mode.

What are the causes of fault code P0715?

  • Faulty input/turbine-speed sensor
  • Damaged or faulty speed sensor cables
  • Electrical connection of the speed sensor is faulty
  • Gearshift solenoids that are not working properly
  • Transmission valve body damaged
  • Torque converters that are defective
  • Reluctance shaft or ring damaged or broken
  • Transmission oil dirty or low
  • Faulty PCM

What are the symptoms of fault code P0715?

Incorrect or erratic shifting of gears is the most common symptom associated with fault code P0715.

  • The engine fault lamp illuminates
  • A hard or erratic shift of gear
  • The vehicle can enter limp mode
  • Fluctuations on the speedometer
  • Fuel consumption increases
  • The engine can stall in some cases

How to Fix Fault Code P0715?

Your mechanic will first inspect the input sensor and its cable. All damaged cables need to be replaced. Test the voltage signal from the sensor to determine if the sensors or cables are faulty. If the cables are not damaged, then the sensor must be replaced. After the ECM/PCM has been reset, it is time to test the vehicle. After replacing the input sensor cables or sensors, it is important to clean up any transmission fluid leaks. If the sensor fails again, it may be a short time.

  • Repairing damaged cable for the input sensor
  • Replace the input speed sensor

P0715 Fault Code: How Serious Is It?

P0715 can have different effects on your vehicle. In some cases, there may be no obvious problem. However, it can cause problems with gear shifting. A transmission that doesn’t shift gears can be dangerous.
