P0068 MAP/MAF – Throttle Position Correlation Fault: What is it?

P0068 MAP/MAF – Throttle Position Correlation Fault: What is it?

Different sensors monitor the air intake of an engine. The MAP sensor measures air pressure inside the intake manifold. The MAF sensor calculates engine air flow volume, and the TPS sensor shows the position of throttle plate within the throttle body. The Powertrain Control Module stores the P0068 error code in memory if the values of one sensor conflict with those provided by another. The PCM will record a code P0068 if the data provided by each sensor does not match the information from the MAF and MAP sensors.
These sensors provide information that is used to determine when and how long fuel injectors are open, as well as when spark plugs ignite the air-fuel mix. These sensors are used by the PCM to determine what is the best air-fuel mixture.

What are the possible causes of fault code P0068?

Various reasons can cause the PCM to set the P0068 error code. These include:

  • Faulty MAP Sensor
  • Faulty MAF sensors
  • TPS sensor faulty or defective
  • Cable damage to MAP, TPS and/or MAF sensors
  • Connectors that are loose or damaged
  • Intake manifold vacuum leaks, air intake system or the throttle body
  • The throttle body is dirty or defective
  • PCM Issues

What are the symptoms of fault code P0068?

The computer could deliver incorrect fuel or activate the ignition at the wrong time if one of these sensors is sending the wrong signals to the PCM. The following warning signs will be displayed on the vehicle if code P0068 is present:

  • Engine fault light illuminated
  • Engine performance problems
  • Hesitation during sudden acceleration
  • Fluctuations of idle speed
  • Fuel consumption increases

Different codes can be displayed depending on the cause. A faulty MAF may set both the P0068 code and the P1101.

How to Fix Fault Code P0068?

  • Inspect the connectors of the MAP and MAF sensors and the throttle position sensor for corrosion or other visible issues
  • Test for leaks in the intake manifold by starting the engine
  • Look for carbon (oily dark-coloured material)
  • Test all sensors and make sure they work properly

How serious is fault code P0068?

The fault code P0068 might not show any symptoms at first, but it will eventually affect your vehicle’s driving and operating conditions. Engine damage can be caused by difficult and irregular engine operation. The air/fuel mix will be wrong if there is a vacuum leak. This will cause the engine’s idle to run poorly. Fuel consumption will increase, and the symptoms of a poor engine will be evident. This problem should be repaired immediately to prevent further engine damage.
